College Hockey:
Northeastern To Host Women’s Championships

— The final Division I AWCHA national championship tournament will take place in Boston March 24 and 25, USA Hockey announced on Feb. 11.

Northeastern University will host the tournament at Matthews Arena, Boston’s oldest hockey rink. The Division I semifinals will be March 24 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., while the championship game will be March 25 at 7 p.m. Northeastern will also host the Division III AWCHA championship series in the afternoon on March 24 and 25. Two Division III teams will play two
games, with a mini-game tiebreaker if necessary.

For Division I, automatic bids will go to the ECAC regular season and conference champions as well as to the WCHA playoff champ. A selection committee will distribute the remaining bid, or bids, using selection criteria that includes record, strength of schedule and head-to-head
competition.

In 2001, Division I women’s hockey will have its first-ever NCAA tournament. Tickets for this year’s AWCHA tournament are available at the Northeastern University Ticket Office.
