Minnesota’s Haula to play for Finland at World Juniors

Minnesota freshman Erik Haula will represent Finland at the IIHF World Junior Championship starting Sunday in Buffalo.

Haula totaled four goals and four assists in 12 games playing for Finland in two Under-18 World Junior Championships and helped the team claim a bronze medal in 2009. He also played in the 2008 World U-17 Hockey Challenge and tied for fifth in the tournament with 10 points (two goals and eight assists).

Haula leads the Gophers with 12 assists in 18 games this year and is tied for third on the team with 15 points.

On Sunday, Haula will face his Gopher teammate Nick Bjugstad as the United States and Finland play at 8 p.m. EST.
