College Hockey:
Michigan, Ohio State to play outdoors in Cleveland

Michigan is slated to play in its third outdoor game in as many seasons as published reports have the Wolverines and Ohio State playing at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Sunday, Jan. 15.

According to the Detroit News, Michigan coach Red Berenson confirmed this report. A press conference is reportedly scheduled for Friday at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians.

“I’d never say no to an outdoor game,” Berenson said in the article. “It’s great for the players and unique for our fans. It’s throwback hockey. Our fans get fired up for outdoor games. They travel well.”

The game would be a home game for the Buckeyes.

Michigan skated in a game at Camp Randall Stadium against Wisconsin during the 2009-2010 season and last season at Michigan Stadium versus Michigan State.

Why? No one cares about hockey in the state of Ohio. And OSU vs Michigan is not a rivalry in any sport other than football.

This is going to be a flop.

I’m from Ohio and love college hockey!  Also, Michigan is a rival in every sport for OSU!

I live in cleveland and there are plenty of fans to fill the 43K seat Indians dome, in fact they should do it at the Browns sadium! this is going to be great for cleveland and their hockey fans. We get 11K in attendence for the AHL playoffs this year, team Lake Erie Monsters. We can pull this off. There are a lot of OSU and U-M fans in cleve as well. Finally cleveland will get noticed for our hockey patronism!

I  love when people make statements that are absolutely wrong.  Cleveland is the LARGEST HOCKEY fanbase in the US without an NHL team.  This isn’t opinion…its fact.  The thing will sell out without any question.

Anytime OSU plays Michigan, there is going to be an audience…

This is a great opportunity to show everyone how great the hockey support is here in Cleveland.  There is no doubt in my mind this will sell out.  This will also give the local teams a chance of a lifetime to skate out on a giant stadium.
