No. 4 Ohio State had the other first-place vote.

Minnesota and Boston College stay No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, as does Merrimack at No. 5.

Notre Dame rises one to No. 6, while Colorado College is down one to No. 7. Western Michigan holds steady in the eighth spot, Boston University jumps to No. 9 from No. 11 and Ferris State falls one to No. 10 to round out the top half of the poll.

Union falls one notch to No. 11 and Colgate remains No. 12. Cornell jumps three from No. 16, while Denver drops one to No. 14. Michigan State drops to No. 15 this week.

Lake Superior State falls one to No. 16 and Massachusetts-Lowell is up one to No. 17. North Dakota jumps one place to No. 18, while Yale falls two to No. 19.

I am sure glad the USCHO staff typed out the poll word for word…otherwise I am not sure I could have figured it out by just looking at it.

    • Scott Reed

I think we might need a diagram with anamation so we can see the moves… Its too hard to follow

      • OccupyTheRalph

Hey given Ralph Engelstad’s hobbies, are you hayseeds in North Dakota getting ready to celebrate the German launch of the Battle of the Bulge this weekend?

      • Slambammy

        How about a nice PowerPoint?

    • Rails83

That is way ti funny. LMAO when I read Slambammy remarks to the polls being written out. LOL

There, I just saved everyone a bunch of time from reading through the possible future comments… now go enjoy the rest of your evening :)

Let’s try that again, apparently USCHO’s comment system interprets anything in angled brackets as HTML tag invocations…

“Comment about how the polls/USCHO/the voters/the sport of hockey itself is flawed, and some other comment about North Dakota/Minnesota/WCHA
Retaliation from North Dakota/Minnesota fan about their team and how it’s better
Comment from third party saying you shouldn’t care so much about the polls
Comment that degenerates into an insult of the person’s favorite hockey team, the color of their shirt, or something political in nature

There, I just saved everyone a bunch of time from reading through the possible future comments… now go enjoy the rest of your evening :)”

Unfortunatly you couldn’t save us the time of reading both of yours, and there is an edit button you know…

I’ll be sure not to force your eyeballs to read my comments next time! Arguing on the Internet is fun.

don’t like it, don’t read it.

I love it. Since we can’t use the white board, I’ll say it for the nuance challenged. How can Duluth keep being be ranked #1?  The Gophers swept them in Duluth. It doesn’t matter that they haven’t lost since then. NoDak is in the top 20 only because their history of second half surges. They are a terrible team, with a terrible name, and terrible fans, with terrible uniforms. Now we are complete, I’m going to bed!

    • Philipvanschepen

Oops forgot one note. Merimack, Cornell and Colgate don’t belong in the top 20. Everybody knows the only decent programs east of Lake Erie are BC and BU.

      • ibanezist00

Must be all that eastern bias. It wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that their body of work thus far into the season has actually been solid, or anything. After all, that would be too easy of an explanation. Also, the polls mean everything, especially halfway through the season, because whoever is ranked at this point will definitely finish in that position at the end of the season.

Well being a Gopher fan I would love to agree with you but in this case I cannot.  UMD has not lost a game since the Gopher sweep against ranked or non ranked teams.  Gophers have lost 3 games (home and away) to three non ranked teams.  That keeps them out of #1.  The only thing that kept the polls looking this way this week is that everyone lost/tied one of the games.  If top 10 would have won their games…Gophs would be suffering a lower spot.

You need to calm down a bit. NoDak is a terrible team? You want to ask CC how they feel about UND? We’ll see how minny does when it has to come to UND later in the season.

BTW the reason you aren’t ranked ahead of UMD is because you can’t beat average teams at home like Tech. You deserve to ranked right where you are. Start beating the teams you should beat and then you can complain.

    • nogofer

Duluth IS better than the rodents. In the last 5 weeks the gofers have been average, at best. I can respect Bulldog fans, they know hockey.  I have little respect for the ‘entitled’ gofer fans, most of whom cannot find the campus or the barn they call a rink…

      • Slambammy

I honestly don’t care if you are a UND, UMD, Gopher, or LSS fan.  True fans of their team will tell it how it is no matter what.  They will give facts and hopefully a well thought out analysis of why their teams is #1 or un-ranked.  Feelings or respect don’t really matter.  Yes, the Gophs have been average but they are still a good team.  History shows UND has a better 2nd half.  I hope they do.  I love the rivalry.  I am not sure what you mean by “Entitled”.  I, personally, don’t feel anyone is entitled to anything.  You work for what you want whether it be on a personal level or a team level.  NoGopher…you are a perfect example of the trolling that goes on in these blogs.  All you want to do is call names and bash people for the team they support.  That will gain you no respect and gives a bad name to the good supporters of the UND team.

UMD is #1 because they’re playing like #1.  Not that hard to figure out.

    • FightingSioux4Ever

10 game unbeaten streak?  That’s what polls measure, the CURRENT performance.  You think they should be voting on week 3 results in the 7th week of the season?

      • Champs

        its actually 14……but who’s counting really…..

    • Rails1983

Get out of the past your Gophers just lost to Michigan tech at home. Reality check needs to be in place for people like you. I’m a huge Michigan (Blue) fan and I can step out of my tunnel vision to see that UMD with a 14 game unbeaten streak deserves the #1 spot. Name another team that has done that in the past decade. As for NoDak I havent studied enough to know much about there team. They very well could be down in talent this year. The Gophers get the Best of the Best Mn hockey players and should be top 5 every year. Be blessed you are ranked were your at because I see struggles for your very young team during the second half.

    • Kentarowins

True, they did get the sweep, and that was their highlight of the season. Gophers have a good team this year, and I see some big games coming up between the two teams either in the WCHA FF (or whatever it’s called now :-/   and the NCAA tourney. I think the advantage is on the Gophers for looking up at UMD for so much of the season, it gives them a lot more motivation for the future. So why complain? If they’re the better team, they’re going to play with vengeance in March for being overlooked all season long.
The sweep in Duluth though, I don’t think anybody could realistically have watched both those games and said Minnesota was the better team, it could have very easily gone 4 points the other way.
Not to mention, you know many times Minnesota is ranked #1 just by the virtue thay they won a few games on a normal season? Minnesota had a bad year last year, UMD won a title, so it only makes sense that the poll voters are going to give UMD more credibility on the season than the Gophers

    • Fan man

Um terrible huh?  You barely beat the Sioux at home and then you lose to   Michigan Tech, Vermont, and barely get by Minnesota State all at home…  Cant wait to see those ugly goofer uniforms at the Ralph in January….  U’ll be playing a much different team and I highly doubt you will narrowly escape with victories again.  More like you will be seeing my broom handle!!!!

  • Gary
