College Hockey:
Boston University’s Trivino arrested, booted permanently from team

Boston University senior and Hockey East leading goal scorer Corey Trivino was arrested Sunday night (Dec. 11) and charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery after he allegedly entered the room of a female student and attempted to kiss and grope her, according to a report in BU Today.

Trivino, also charged with two counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime and one count of assault with attempt to rape, is no longer a member of the hockey team, head coach Jack Parker said in the article.

Trivino, a Toronto native, pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment Monday in Brighton District Court. Judge David T. Donnelly set bail at $25,000 or surrender of Trivino’s Canadian passport and ordered Trivino to leave his dorm room by 3 p.m. Monday.

“This will be a big hole to fill,” said Parker in the report. “And there’s an emotional hole, also.”

The article further stated Trivino may attend classes until he is officially suspended or expelled.

Back in May 2010, Trivino was suspended for an alcohol-related incident before the Hockey East semifinals and missed time at the start of the 2010-11 season.

Trivino had 13 goals and 17 points in 15 games this season and ends his Terriers’ career with 73 points in 112 games. He was also drafted by the New York Islanders in 2008.

It doesn’t look like the HE Ref’s will be able to help him out on this one….

      absolutely hilarious!

So true…Jackie couldn’t cover it up either, as he usually does -

I guess this preps him for a transfer to North Dakota

    • Gjug

      Your stupid….

      • Milky

        ahem — *you’re* — cough

      • Slambammy

As great a retort as “Your stupid” is (with the improper use of the word Your – thank you Milky for pointing that out), lets try to keep these posts more, shall I say, sophisticated.  There are many other synonyms we could use here.  Such as:  Dopey, foolish, thick-skulled, loggerheaded, witless or yokel-like (no offense to the Yokels out there).

        • Beeeej

Ah, the irony of pointing out someone else’s error… and then making one of your own (“lets” vs. “let’s”).  :-)

          • Slambammy

            Dammit.

    • Scott Reed

look at last years top scorer in the nation… Matt Frattin from UND, he was arrested for a DUI, lost his scholarship and was kicked off the team.  He went home and turned his life around, and walked back on to the Sioux progrom.  He could have went pro he was already drafted… but he did the right thing.

It looks like this guy doesn’t have a chance no matter what since he is a senior (refer to (Gjug’s post below)

      • WCHA Fan

At least BU did the right thing.  Frattin should have never been allowed back on the team.  There are a few MTU players UND might want to pick up as well…

        • http://twitter.com/Butterz07 Aaron G.

really for a DUI?  big deal, more players are kicked off the gopher squad than the sioux squad in the last 20 years or most teams for that matter

          • WCHA Fan

My point exactly.  They kick them off!  These kids are privileged to be representing a college or university at this level and should act as such.  Good for BU and the Gophers too.  Winning is important, but not the most important thing.

      • Scott Reed

The world of college and professional sports would be non existant if DUI’s got them kicked out… what precedence is there to not have let him back on?

    • nogofer

Does Goldy know that the gofers are leading  the wcha in penalty minutes per game?  gofer goons…

      • Anonymous

Does nogofer know that the Gophers are in leading the WCHA in wins?

        • nogofer

I know the rodents are currently doing well and winning.  Because it has been so long we’ll give the rodentia (their fans) a pass.  Now behave as though you’ve been here before.

          • WCHA Fan

            Pretty sure you started it…

          • Fan Man

Don’t worry, the Sioux will end for the Goofs too!  Lot of hockey to play so let the Minnesota Meltdown commence….

          • jmsptrk

Speaking of behaving as if you’ve been there before…. is that what you guys tell Hakstol about winning an NCAA championship? Since, you know, he never has?

          • nogofer

And Coach Woog leads all UND coaches in games suspended (re 1996). So what is your point?  That you won a title using a North Dakota product, or using a skater from Europe?  I guess your MN-only boys just could not quite do it. OK, Hakstol flipped off a camera, once.  I saw numerous F bombs from tDon Lucy saturday.  Yeah, mn pride on ice…

          • jmsptrk

Sure do grow ‘em thick up there. My point is you calling the kettle black.

          • nogofer

Are you calling Coach Potulny thick?  Try that to his face…

          • GODOGs

If UND had to field a team with the bulk of their players being ND products… you MIGHT field a nice DIII team.

          • nogofer

            Irrelevant,  buh bye…

          • Suture

Hakstol has never won a NC at North Dakota?  Hmmm??  Think about that for just a minute pal.

          • jmsptrk

Coach Hakstol took over UND in 2004-2005. When did they win their last NCAA championship? Oh, right… the 1999-2000 season. And when was he an associate coach under Blais? Oh right, starting in the 2000-2001 season… the year AFTER they won their last title. (North Dakota has a picture of their 1999-2000 championship team on their website, and guess who is conspicuously absent? Hakstol). AND, even as a player…. he was there from 1989 to 1992… during a ten year drought of championships. So think about that for just a minute… pal.

          • Anonymous

Lol. Nogofer you are an idiot. The article has nothing to do with Minnesota and you steer the conversation to the Gophers. Your screen name even has Gopher in it. You like all others ND fans are obsessed with Minnesota and have a serious inferiority complex. I’ve never seen fans trash talk a team after they were just swept until this year. It’s okay for us to be excited about our team after 4 years of mediocrity. Trust me we’ve been here before.

          • nogofer

YOU liked a comment about a transfer to ND, I was responding.  7 > 5 does not create an inferiority complex.  More regular season championships (15 to 12) does not create an inferiority complex.  A balanced state budget, more oil than you know what to do with, low crime, great hunting and fishing…  YOU are the one with the complex as evidenced by your continued postings…

          • Anonymous

So not only are you trolling my comments, you’re trolling the comments that I click “Like”? You need to get a life. Oh and thank you for that Economics lesson. It’s fascinating to have the Economy of a state with 670,000 people compared to that of a state with over 5 million. I’m glad you’re parents could afford to send you away from the farm to get your education. Your attempt to belittle a University with 5 NCAA Championships, 32 NCAA tournament appearances and 19 Frozen Four appearances is laughable… and Hakstol has done a terrific job of keeping the proud tradition going with all those championships this century.

          • nogofer

Your complex is evident.  See you at the best hockey rink on the planet in January?

          • Slambammy

Yes!  See you at Mariucci!!  I will be the one in the Maroon and Gold.

          • nogofer

Stop, yer killin me…  The barn Maryhoochii is like a flea bag hotel, full of morons in Gold…

          • Slambammy

Wow…”Morons in Gold” eh?  Heh…nogofer….you really need to be more creative.  Your lexicon contain any words more than six letters?  Troll, troll, troll…it is all your doing.

          • nogofer

And yet, here you are.  One man’s trolling is another man’s research.  Nice attempt at an insult, I’ll try to keep it simple so the gofer-faithful can keep up…  And it is you’re, not your:  Your gofer education is evident.  You’re not UND calibre…

          • Slambammy

Try again nogofer.  In this case Your is used correctly.  This is my last reply to anything you have to say.  It’s not worth it.  I swear there is nothing but brick dust floating in that cranial cavity of yours.  Good luck with your raging insanity.

          • nogofer

Your last reply? Promise? Resorting to personal insults reveals the quality of your soul and the hollowness of your argument..  And that IS the correct your…  Point, set, match…  buh-bye…

          • BlinkytheWonderChimp

Act like you’ve been there before… for ND hockey players, they have no problem acting like this when they get arrested.  Most of them have been in jail before!

          • nogofer

            Peanut Gallery:  Party of one…

      • Slambammy

Because the Gophers are finally standing up for themselves.  When players take runs at the likes of Kyle Rau and Jake Hansen, then our 6’2″+ talented skater/enforcers are going to take exception and protect them.  The last 5 min was to Helgeson and he was protecting Hansen who had just been run and in response to a 5 min high stick to Kyle Rau.  I would expect any team to respond in this fashion.  I say keep bringing it to the Gophers.  They have some big Sophomores this year…they will protect their team.

        • nogofer

I watched rau embellish the high-stick. I watched hansen cross-check in the offensive zone as he creates space to score.  I watched lucia cuss so badly his ancestors are blushing.  Minnesota pride on ice?

          • Slambammy

I was at the game.  Third row, clear view.  If holding your hand to your face is embellishing then you best not wipe your nose.  They all cross check, its part of hockey.  Taking a run at someone is going to get you a retaliation.  Lucia was angry at the Asst Coach from MTU who was trash talking over the boards. Again…even the coaches are standing up for the team.  I wish Potulny would have decked that asst coach.

          • nogofer

If that is the view of reality you prefer, so be it.  The truth is on the tape, view it and weep…  Even the announcers (and I use that term rather than cheerleaders behind the mic) commented on rau’s embellishment, their words, not mine…  gofer goons…

          • FightingSioux4Ever

Isn’t Potulny from, wait, yes it’s Grand Forks?  Now, I’m not bashing Grant at all, I think he was a great college player and is a better coach.  It’s a little ironic, don’t you think?

      • WCHA

Does Goldy know his team is ranked #2 in the nation? The real question here is which crappy hockey team are you cheering for – NoDak or SCSU??

        • nogofer

If you follow the blogs you know who I cheer for, if you have to ask you aren’t worthy of my time…

    • FightingSioux4Ever

Sorry.  The Sioux don’t have any room for HE rejects.

Haha first thing that went into my head “boy this boy would be perfect for UND”

  • Scott Reed

What happened to innocent until proven guilty in our country? I am not defending him I don’t know anymore about the situation than what is written above, but I hate the way sports punishes people just because of unproven allogations.

    • http://twitter.com/Lia_Bia Lia B

The rest of us hate that sports covers up/ignores serious allegations most of the time. I’m sure it’s part of the team rules that you can’t be arrested for a number of things and stay part of the team. something you sign up for as a player… or a student at a university for that matter.

      • Scott Reed

I’m not saying he is innocent, in fact I think he is guilty and agree he should be kicked off the team. I don’t know if I would generalize in a serious discussion like we have been doing… I mean ignores/covers up most of the time is probably a little too far…

I know people who have been wrongfully arrested, no questions 100% innocent.  If they were part of an organization that had a rule against being arrested, should they be punished because someone else lied?  More than likely it is a morality clause in the contract that leaves a lot to be interpreted by whoever is doing the punishing.

Also for the record, if any of my children grow up and say “Daddy I want to be like______ when I get bigger” and you insert any professional athleate’s name in there… I would probably gorund them for a year.  Obviously there are some exceptions, none are from the NBA though.

        Off my soapbox now…

        • WCHA Fan

Can’t believe I actually agree with you here.  Just to add a note, wrongfully arrested happens.  Wrongfully charged with a crime is very rare. We’ll see how quick any charges come.  My guess, very quickly.

Add most players from the NFL to that list as well…

          • Scott Reed

I totally agree, the ethics and morals in professional sports are horrible. Then the media plays to the lowest level of ethics and morals in the rest of society… and we wonder why our children are growing up the way they are.  People hate Tim Tebow… why? we should all try to be more like him and the good that he does, not look for flaws in him to discredit everything about him.

    • Sandman7733

You make a very, very good point. I agree with you, however, I think most of it comes from the notion that is always seems that those who are in high profile areas (sports, entertainment) always appear to get off easy, or in some cases, get away with it all together. It seems to be a double edged sword, so to speak.
The media LOVES to go by the adage of “guilty until proven innocent.”

    • ibanezist00

Can’t believe I agree with you on something here. There is a first time for everything :D

  • Bender

It’s really weird that he’s getting charged for breaking and entering a dorm at BU when in all likelihood the door to the apartment was unlocked. A large population of students at BU leave their doors unlocked so friends can stop by. Also, from the BU Today article, it would appear that Trivino left on his own after the girl insisted that he leave. I mean where is the intent to rape if he left on his own free will instead of being dragged out of there by the cops?
I’m definitely not saying what he did was right, but I do believe he’s being over prosecuted.

    • Beeeej

“Breaking and entering” doesn’t mean actually shattering a lock mechanism to enter.  The slightest amount of force – even pushing a door so that it opens – is illegal if you don’t have authorization to enter.

    • LMDubbs

If a robber comes to your house while you are home and the door is unlocked, starts taking your stuff, but you ask him to leave and he does, he still attempted to rob you and was trespassing… That said, he hasn’t been proven guilty yet, and there isn’t a grand jury assessment of the case floating around with strong evidence that he did anything, so their reaction to this may be premature…

      • Bender

Just read the Boston Hockey Blog article and I change my mind about how I feel about this.  After reading how he repeatedly returned I now think the outraged reactions are much more understandable. I had previously thought the incident occurred once and he left as soon as the girl insisted that she did not want him there. If this had been the case I would have thought getting the police involved would be overkill. Obviously I did not have all the information, but now that I do, I agree that the matter is very serious and disciplinary action should be taken upon conviction.

        • Guest

Bender, I just read the article.  Pretty sad story!  I dont think anybody has the right to poke and make fun at this kid…  Made some (4) poor decisions with the most costly and sounds like most disturbing one on Sunday nite, now you just have the pray the kid can come back and turn himself into the person he IS without the “booze”.

      • ICU81MI

No. In that case he actually robbed you.

    • Anonymous42

you obviously have not read the full police report…He forcibly entered FOUR different times!!!

  • John Fitzgerald

I anticipate an announcement regarding his signing with the Islander Organization as soon as he pleads guily to a lesser charge and the legal ramifications are known.

  • Joe C

So much for a happy winter break in the Back Bay. I am sure that Versus/NBC Sports Talk will have much to say about this on the New Years’ Eve game against Notre Dame.

Non story.  BU players are in trouble constantly.  Guess Parker couldn’t cover this one up.

    • Hockey East for life

Really?!? You shouldn’t throw stones if you live in a glass house. The Maine hockey program was a complete disgrace under Shawn Walsh for many years. They were a disgrace to college hockey. Cheating was the norm…ineligible players and felons were the norm. Do you remember Brendan Walsh? Kicked off the BU team for drinking & bad behavior & Maine welcomed him with open arms? Guess it’s ok for the almighty Maine. What’s the one-way street you Maine fans live on, anyway?

      • Anonymous

As for Shawn, when all was said and done the NCAA in the Jeff Torrey matter said Maine did nothing wrong. This was never brought out much at that time so virtually there is no more truth to it. As for Brendan, he got in no trouble at Maine, his only complaint was he disliked Parker and he knew Parker disliked Maine so as he said, it was the only place to go.

    • BUlly

You’re not too bright, are you?

  • HuskyHockey1986

Woah… um didn’t see this coming.

  • 94eagle

They booted him off the team right away usually means there have been numerous prior incidents that the public never found out about.
Typical Jack Parker “We’ve a big hole to fill” no regard for the victims.  he’s no better than Joepa

    • BUlly

The thing is, it’s been well reported that Trivino has had previous suspensions, so it’s not really a surprise.  And to be fair to Jack Parker, he did talk about the victim several times.  For you to compare him to Joe Paterno is at best disingenuous and at worst moronic homerism.  I now there’s no litmus test or IQ evaluation before posting on this forum, but I’m still surprised at the level of stupidity that reigns on this board.

      • BUlly

Self correction:  I “know” there’s no litmus test…  Dang, nothing sucks worse than a misspelling when pillorying someone else.  :)

Wow! BU has been playing so well lately — Trivino was a big piece. Really bad news all around…

  • Toronto_1066

How long ’till he signs with the Islanders? Guess he needs to get his passport back first….

  • Nick

None of these players who do this kind of crap like the several UND players in the past and this guy should get a second chance. The scholarships should be given to people who need financial help in order to attend university.

    • FightingSioux4Ever

The several UND players?  Must be nice to live in a fairy world where once something is written it’s true.  Back up your statement with facts or SHUT THE HELL UP!  Your claim is liveless and derogatory, Why don’t you take a trip to Grand Forks and get a first hand look at the campus and its students.  You might think twice about making stupid, childish remarks in the future.

  • Suckitgoophs

Yep, those gooph players are just well behaving kids as well. I remember the bar in Dinkytown being shut down for a week or two because they served the entire gooph team. But hey, they were of legal age, right? Yeah, they would never do anything that would get them in trouble……….
