College Hockey:
North Dakota’s Grimaldi to undergo season-ending knee surgery

North Dakota announced Thursday that freshman forward Rocco Grimaldi will undergo knee surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.

He will be eligible for a medical redshirt.

Grimaldi suffered the injury during the preseason and has appeared in just four of UND’s 23 games this season, recording two points on a goal and an assist.

Tabbed the WCHA preseason rookie of the year, Grimaldi was a second-round draft pick (33rd overall) of the Florida Panthers last June.

Get healthy.  Come back strong next year.  You’ve got some rehab and catching up to do.

I doubt that he’ll need the redshirt, as I don’t think that anyone expected 4 years out of Rocco, but I suppose its possible.  Either way, best wishes too him, knee injuries can be tricky.

This really hurts a UND team that needs another big time scoring threat this year. Looking like it’s going to be the first time in a LOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGGG time that UND doesn’t make the NCAA tourney. It’s been since 2002. Looking like we are going to need to win the Final Five to get in at this point.

I think we get to be a spoiler this year.  Who should we knock out of pairwise contention?
