College Hockey:
Kristo announces return to North Dakota for senior season

North Dakota forward Danny Kristo announced Tuesday that he will return for his senior season in 2012-13 instead of signing with the Montreal Canadiens.

A second-round pick of the Canadiens in the 2008 NHL draft, Kristo enjoyed the best season of his collegiate career in 2011-12, achieving career highs in points (45), goals (19), assists (team-leading 26), game-winning goals (3) and plus/minus (+16).

UND’s leading active scorer with 109 points (42 goals, 67 assists) in 117 career games, Kristo finished ninth in the WCHA scoring race last season and became the 84th player in program history to amass 100 career points when he scored twice in a 4-2 win over Minnesota State on March 2.

Kristo will enter the 2012-13 season as the leading active scorer among WCHA forwards.

    OK Corban…..you’re next buddy!

    • MPLS Sioux

He already said he’s coming back next year

      • Scpa0305

        saw that

  • Uhju0301

    Championship!

    • Sueh8ter

      hahahahahaha, that is laughable!!!!!!!!

      • North Dakota!

It’s laughable because you know that the Sioux are going to win their 8th. It’s like, “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you know we’re going to win. GO SIOUX!

        • CrockOGrimaldi

Yeahhhh just like the last, what?  12 seasons?  Yeahhhh.  Our seven titles.  Wooo-hooo.  Let’s include the ones from back when goalies didn’t wear masks and the sticks weren’t even curved.  Wooooo hooooo

          • Scpa0305

Well then the Gophs would only have 2 then right?  with the help of a ND boy too?  Right?

          • John

Don’t start a MN/ND battle with actual MN/ND players.  ND is mostly Canucks while MN is almost 95% (formally 100%) Minnesota Pride. Don’t forget that ND had 7 Minnesotans on their team this year.  MN only had 3-4 non-Minnesota natives.  I’m not taking a shot at you….just be careful of the ND boy helper comment.

          • Scpa0305

Believe me I fully understand we’re going to have MN’s on our team….I h8 that BS MN’s always mention.  Their state is 10 times the size or more and their HS hockey system is 2nd to none (in the US)…so yes most teams in college (besides the east coast) will be full of MNs….there I got that out of the way.  Also, being in GF…we are pretty close to the border and as a former youth hockey player from GF we play Manitoban teams quite frequently due to where we are located.  Many of the players we get are from the Winnepeg area…which is much closer than the Twin Cities so yes we will recruit from there.

          • B.D.

Yes, I cannot understand the adherents to the Minnesota Master Race theory.  We recruit from our surrounding communities (Minnesota, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, etc ) and somehow we are inferior?

I thought broadening our base was supposed to be good….

          • MPLS Sioux

Well if that is case just doing some critical thinking here UofM= Nazis, Gopher fans= Loyal German Nazi supporters…. Lucia= Hitler?

I’m sorry, am I way off?? (best Harry Carey impression)

          • B.D.

I gotta say their logic defies explanation…..

          • B.D.

Yet another person trying to prove that Minnesotan teams are somehow genetically superior due to their use of Minnesotans, and somehow those who have Canadians, Californians, or North Dakotas, on them are somehow inferior.

This Minnesota Master-race theory is totally lost on me….

          • Scpa0305

            BTW, you are trash.

          • MPLS Sioux

Do those titles not count?  I thought we still got trophies for them didn’t we?  I’m confused…

        • Sueh8ter

what are you tools out there on the flat lands smoking???  they may be middle of the pack again. the only reason kristo decided to stay is because montreal only offered him some toe warmers as a contract.

          • B.D.

            Homeboy is back….

  • patrickolson

As much as I would like him to have signed, I look forward to seeing the best the Sioux have to offer for the final year of games (vs. the Gophers). Should be a fun and interesting (see penalty filled) final set of games between these two rivals!

    • Scpa0305

I like it….should be some good games next year.

      • WCHA Fans

WCHA fans are glad he is staying to.

Kristo is such a talented forward but he is also a bad teammate to play with.  Yes I know all you Green colored glasses will defend him, but he is a selfish player who thinks he can do it all himself.

I think North Dakota would be a better TEAM without him.

        • Scpa0305

Is he selfish….maybe.  Will he be good in the NHL…I actually have my doubts.  Will he help us be better next year….without question.  Would we be better without him….not a chance bro.

        • MPLS Sioux

Yeah 26 assists last year, what a selfish jerk. He just wants all the goals for himself.

        • SIOUXFAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your statement is flawed, Kristo led the Sioux in assists….was a penalty killer and was the main guy setting up the powerplay. He is flashy but that shows confidence. If the coaches didn’t like it, they would tell him to tone it down

  • GopherBroke

is he switching his number to 420?

    • SIOUXFAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

       shut up pot head

  • guest

    Probably wasn’t offered a contract…

    • MPLS Sioux

He was offered a contract by Montreal actually

      • guest

I’ve heard he’s dating Corban Knight.  Is that true?

        • MPLS Sioux

^ Dropped on head as an infant…repeatedly…on purpose

          • guest

            So, do you know?

          • B.D.

Thats the best you got?  Sad….

          • MPLS Sioux

            I remember my 1st beer

        • SIOUXFAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

           ……………..

  • Scpa0305

Now we just need Seth Jones to make the right decision….although I’m guessing he’ll choose the WHL.

    • icelund

Not necessarily. He didn’t want to sign with Everett, and the fact that Portland gave up next to nothing for the right to talk with him leads me to believe that they aren’t all that optimistic either.

  • Hugehockeyfan

I think him staying another year is good for both ND and himself.  He can move the puck well, but I think he needs work on his shooting.  He’d have a lot of shots on net, but most it seems were right at the goalie.  Hopefully another year will help him develop his shot a little better and add to his credentials the goal scoring threat he needs.

Either way, Good Luck Danny and I’m looking forward to watching you another year!

  • guest

The only North Dakota player is a senior. Is there going to be one North Dakota kid on the team next year? North Dakota hockey is a fraud like the prep school that recruits from all over the place.

    • MPLS Sioux

What bearing does that have on North Dakota being a great hockey program?  I didn’t realize our motto was “University of North Dakota- We only have ND boys on this team”.  Obviously the Minnesota and Canadians come play for us rather than the U in their hometown because they know it’s their best shot of becoming NHL ready.  You’re maroon and gold is showing through your anonymous username guest, at least own up to it.

      • GF(Grand Forks)Gopher

Why did you move in MPLS and leave your far superior North Dakota?

        • B.D.

In my case it was because the Army needed me elsewhere for 26 years.  Since then I have lived around the world, but now currently reside in the mountains of Arizona.  Thank God for satellite TV.

          • Dmisurek

Thanks for your service – I have nothing but respect for the military.

God didn’t launch those satellites – it was engineers and scientists whose work achieved those feats.

            Enjoy AZ, BD.

          • B.D.

I worked with the guys who put up the GPS Constellation.  Few of them think they did it alone….

          • guest

Like Al Gore and the internet?

          • B.D.

            Ha!
Actually, I also worked with some of the older guys from DARPA that worked the predecessor of the internet as well. Funny, they never mentioned Al Gore in any conversation I had with them.

      • Guest

People from North Dakota and Wisconsin are like Mexicans.  They move to Minnesota for a better life and then continue to tell stories of the amazing land they left.  Why did they leave if it’s so great in their homeland?

        • B.D.

We could say the same thing about the myriad of Minnesota license plates that populate our roads here in AZ.

We have a saying that when you are driving on West bound I-10 and see a full mile of backed up traffic ahead of you dring 54 MPH then it is obvious that two RV’s with Minnesota plates are pulled up side by side with their windows down.  The one RV is probably yelling to the occupants of the other “We’re from EDINA, are you from EDINA.?”

        • MPLS Sioux

I like how you respond to my post and don’t even address what I said.  Keep hiding behind the anonymity of your username because if you knew you had to speak to a real person you’d mess your pants.

          • guest

            Go back to ND…

          • guest

The Red River is to Minnesota as the Rio Grande is to America.

          • B.D.

Really, it starts in Colorado and flows through New Mexico too?  Damn, the Red sure is an impressive river if it can do that.

Oh, and by the way, It seems half of Minnsota is living in trailers in either Willeston or Casa Grande.   Why can’t THEY stay home?

          • MPLS Sioux

            well played

          • guest

It’s called a metaphore. They probably don’t cover those in ND public schools.

          • B.D.

But my reply was somehow lessened?

By the way, in my experience North Dakota schools produce superior students on a per capita basis in comparison to the other 49 states I have been in (Living in many or them) and several foreign countries.

And the posting  was not a metaphor in a classical sense.

          • MPLS Sioux

You got taken to the shed again guest? You’re looking more ridiculous by the post…

          • guest

            *metaphor

    • B.D.

For a state that has a smaller population base than Saint Paul, it is doing pretty well respect to a population base.
In fact, if we were talking population base versus participation in College Hockey you will see ND in general and GF is actually over represented.

    • Scpa0305

I would say over the last 10-12 years there have been more kids from Grand Forks alone making the team than any other city in the US and Canada.  That’s not all that bad.

  • icelund

    Kristo – Knight – Grimaldi

    …yes.

    • guest

      Who is Grimaldi?

      • B.D.

Apparently somebody homeboy fears or he would not be using his name in a screen ID.

  • LHS_FightingSiouxFan

There must be a lot of people that are mad Kristo is coming back because it seems like half of the comments are from non-siouxfans.

  • Jim

I could care less where the players for the Sioux come from. They could all come from Russia as far as I’m concerned. As a season ticket holder I just want a goo product on the ice and I have been getting that the last 10 years. Nice being able to at least have a chance at a national title in that time unlike a certain school to the east of us.
