College Hockey:
Big Ten names Piotrowski coordinator of officials

The Big Ten announced Monday that Steve Piotrowski will assume the role of coordinator of men’s ice hockey officials for the conference at the conclusion of the upcoming 2012-13 season.

A CCHA on-ice official for 26 years, Piotrowski has served as the director of officials for the CCHA the last five years.

“I am excited to join the Big Ten and truly appreciate this wonderful opportunity which will allow me to contribute in a very positive way to one of the top conferences in the nation,” said Piotrowski in a news release. “I look forward to working with an outstanding group of coaches and administrators who I have tremendous respect for. I’m eager to begin developing the Big Ten’s ice hockey officiating program and embark on the challenges that will come with this new role.”

Piotrowski, who played at Ferris State, is also on the Hobey Baker Memorial Award committee and is the secretary-rules editor of the NCAA men’s ice hockey rules committee.

You’d never guess that Pi played for Ferris.  Hope he enjoys golfing with Red.  Good riddance and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Please do not hire any of the WCHA officials.  Try to bring a level of consistency to the ice.

Why wasn’t there ever an announcement that the B1G TEN was going to make an announcement?

    • nogofer

      Because no one cares?

      • ReturntoGoldCountry

Or because the B1G does not need to pull the same B.S. the NCHC does.  They wait until they have news to make their announcements.  The B1G does not need an announcement about an upcoming annoucement because they are not a second rate want to be league like the NCHC is.

I hope you have dvr to watch the BIG JOKE’S delayed hockey telecasts…

Most Gopher Games will be on FSN still.  Also I will wait for the BTN to come out with their programming schedule to see if there is any truth to the hater’s rumors that the BTN will put the game on tape delay.  Fox is majority owner of BTN and they are not going to take away live broadcasts from their regional sports network, FSN, in order to put in on BTN on delay.  NCHC on the other hand, 17 months away from the opening puck drop and they are already the most over rated conference in college hockey.

I just hope they are quicker at reviews then the WCHA. Nothing kills momentum more then stopping play for 5 minutes while they review a goal. I am all for getting it right but man do the WCHA refs take forever on this. Yeah we scored, time to run up and buy a hotdog.
