College Hockey:
Alaska AD Karr moving to Northern Michigan for similar role

Forrest Karr has been named the Northern Michigan director of athletics, recreational sports and the United States Olympic Education Center/special assistant to the president and will start his new position on June 11.

Karr is currently the athletic director at Alaska and was one of three finalists considered for the Wildcats athletic director position.

“I’m grateful to my friends, co-workers and the many Nanook supporters who have made the last eight years in Fairbanks so memorable,” said Karr in a news release. “I have always considered it a privilege to work for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. While Alaska is a remarkable place, and it’s difficult to leave people I love working with, moving on to a new position and another great community closer to family is very exciting. I am fully committed to ensuring a quality experience in every way for Northern Michigan University students and I look forward to working with the department’s dedicated and talented staff to make this happen.”

Karr has been the UAF athletic director since 2005. He was an Academic All-American during his playing days at Notre Dame.

Karr is an awesome choice for NMU.

Thank you for all you did for UAF athletics Mr. Karr, including the first ever berth in the NCAA hockey tournament.

Good thing Karr didn’t want to go to one of those “like-minded” schools. He knew better isn’t he a Notre Dame grad and his team went to Hockey East not Hockey West or N$H$.

Mr Karr choose a school NMU because they were going to a “hockey-minded” not “like-minded”

Hockey is number one in a place like Marquette. He knew to stay away from Denver, Colorado Springs, Grand Forks, Miami, Kalmazoo, Duluth, St Cloud, and Omahaaaa.

Mr Karr knows hockey-minded towns include Ankorage, Fairbanks, Bowling Green, Big Rapids, Mankato, Bemdji, Marquette, Soo, and Houghton.

Only cowards will leave the WCHA. They blame it on the Big, the Commish, and they were forced to form this other league.

The Super Friendly league will ruin college hockey.

See the real college teams at the meeting in Detroit June 12 to 14.

    Sixty years and counting.
