College Hockey:
Johnson named new assistant at Nebraska-Omaha

Nebraska-Omaha announced Tuesday that Steve Johnson has been named the team’s new assistant coach, replacing Mike Hastings, who left UNO to take the head coach position at Minnesota State.

“I’m very pleased to have a coach of Steve’s caliber fill the void left by Mike Hastings’ departure,” said Nebraska-Omaha coach Dean Blais in a news release. “Steve has the ability to be a great recruiter for us and his on-ice skills as a coach are very strong as shown by his work in both the United States Hockey League and at the college level. His knowledge and experience will make our team stronger.”

Johnson spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at St. Cloud State. Prior to that, he succeeded Blais as the head coach of the Fargo Force of the USHL where he coached for one season, leading the Force to the 2010 Clark Cup finals.

    Saw this one coming

Is Johnson the first or second assistant?

What a surprise another UND graduate coaching in the NCHC.

I can’t wait to see UNO come to Houghton one more time next season. Are. They going to stay in a motel thirty minutes away from Houghton again in Lanse. How smart is that to book a motel in middle of the boonies.

How come he didn’t get the UND position?

Homeboy, what is your fixation/Hatred based on? Obviously you are a local since you knew where Johnson originated which was not mentioned in the story.

Yooper is relentless. Relentlessly annoying, that is.

      I like it!

I like Omaha fans. You have a team that can’t commit to any league by playing in three leagues(CCHA, WCHA, and NCHC) in five years not a bad track record.

      Try again.

Why hasn’t the uschio had any articles on the new WCHA meeting in Detroit next weekend.

Also, what about the NCHC having tourney at the Target and only a couple of the ADs showing up at the announcement. Are the rest of them going golfing instead of announcing the new basketball venue for the NCHC.

There has already been two articles in College Hockey Weekely and none here You can’t be duplicating the NCHC.
