Defending champion Minnesota begins season atop women’s poll

Defending women’s national champion Minnesota starts the 2012-13 season as the top-ranked team in the USCHO.com Division I Preseason Women’s Poll.

Minnesota received all 15 first-place votes.

National runner-up Wisconsin sits second, followed by Cornell, Boston College and North Dakota to round out the top five.

Boston University, St. Lawrence, Minnesota-Duluth, Northeastern and Mercyhurst are ranked 6-10, respectively, in the preseason poll.

Harvard, Clarkson, Providence, Quinnipiac and Robert Morris also received votes.

The USCHO.com Division I Women’s Poll is compiled weekly and consists of 15 voters, including 14 coaches of Division I programs and one women’s hockey writer.

    AND YOU CAN BET THAT WHEN THE MEN’S POLL COMES OUT, THE GOPHERS WILL BE ON THE TOP OF THE HEAP ALSO!!! THE STATE OF HOCKEY!!! IT JUST DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER!! GO GOPHERS!!!!

      As a Gopher fan I don’t think that the men’s team will be the preseason #1, nor are they deserving of it. Let’s see how the season progresses. I would rather see them do well during the course of the season as opposed to starting off #1. For all the fire power they have up front and great defense, they have some huge skates to fill in front of the net.
