College Hockey:
Minnesota defenseman Thompson to transfer at end of semester

Minnesota sophomore defenseman Blake Thompson will leave the Gophers’ program and transfer at the end of the current semester, according to a school-issued news release Tuesday.

“While I’m disappointed in Blake’s decision to transfer, I respect his choice and appreciate his contributions to the program over the last two years,” Minnesota coach Don Lucia said in a statement. “Our team and our staff wish him the best as he moves forward.”

In five games during the 2011-12 season, Thompson recorded two assists. He had not seen any game action this season.

Where’s he transferring to? Or are obvious questions not asked?

not sure if he ever hit the ice for a game, not a huge loss to the program but can be a definite contributor in the same way other recruits have at outlying programs (‘kato and penn state). best of luck to him while not playing against us!

    gpa? drinking? DinkyTown?

    • Sueh8ter

If it were for those reasons, then he would fit right in with the “SUE”

      • nogofer

Like most gofer hockey wannabes, he is nowhere near good enough!

        • Sueh8ter

At least I can safely say there are a lot more gopher wannabes than “SUE” wannabes. Every MINNESOTA kid dreams of playing for the gophers. Those who can’t play elsewhere ie: north dakota, bemidji etc. You get the point.

          • nogofer

I knew you’d post more of your “all mn all the time” drivel…

          • UofMGoldenChokers

Apparently the chokers should be winning the national title every year with this “homegrown” talent…….

          • Sueh8ter

And you are another ignorant soul when it comes to arguing about the state of hockey.

          • nogofer

Perhaps we’ll buy mn at .70 on the dollar, teach them about hockey and finance, then rename it East Dakota…

          • Joe

            Did too.

          • Joe

            Did not.

            Did not.

          • Sueh8ter

And I knew you would show up whining and crying about my post about minnesota hockey. You can’t argue the facts. Unless you honestly thing the wastelands of nodak is a hockey hotbed??

          • Joe

“Those who can’t play elsewhere ie: north dakota, bemidji etc.” What’s really funny is that this sentence says the opposite of what you want it to say with the comma that it is lacking.

He got no playing time because there are at least 8 other D on the team who are better than him.

We are playing 7-8 D a night and he hasn’t once hit the ice, That says a lot.

  • disqus_jICTCp1rIT

No playing time in a system that is playing 7-8 D each night, and not a good prospect of time in the future. If he wants to play it is obvious he would have to leave. Good luck to him where ever he lands.
