Oswego forward Paul Rodrigues has been named the winner of the Sid Watson Award as the nation’s top Division III player, while Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Matt Loen is the Edward Jeremiah Award recipient as the D-III coach of the year.
Rodrigues led the nation in scoring for most of the season and enters this weekend with 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points.
“His speed has allowed him to wreak havoc on the forecheck, make goalies think twice about playing the puck behind the net and torment the opposition’s defenders from the first puck drop to the final horn,” said Oswego coach Ed Gosek in a news release. “His unselfishness and skill set make him a top scoring option on one of the most lethal power-play units in Division III. Paul’s determination and tenacity also makes him a critical member of the penalty-kill unit, as well as one of Oswego’s top faceoff players in its defensive zone. He plays every shift with the intensity that it may be his last.”
Loen has guided Eau Claire to the D-III semifinals for the first time in school history and this 2013 team is the first in school history to win an NCAA playoff game and the NCHA regular-season championship.
In addition, the D-III men’s All-American Teams were announced – three from the East and two from the West.
