Photos: Police called to Minnesota campus celebration after Frozen Four semifinal win

Police wearing riot gear responded to celebrations on the Minnesota campus after the Gophers’ Frozen Four semifinal victory Thursday night.

A Minneapolis police spokesperson told the Star Tribune that some students threw bottles and cans at officers. Some arrests were made, spokesperson John Elder told the newspaper.

Seriously. The police always overreact to any group of more than 10 people. Surprised they don’t have the full body armor on, but some of the cops in the photos look a little too ready to swing those clubs they are caressing lovingly.

Ha! Well, can you blame them? They never win ANYTHING!! I find it entertaining as long as nobody got hurt.

    • Goldenchild

kinda like Wisconsin with football titles

      • ColoradoGopher

To: #1 CheeseBrain…. MN: 35 tournament appearances vs Badders: 26. MN: 21 Frozen Four appearances vs Badders: 12. Granted, Buckey has 6 championships to M & G’s 5…. but let’s talk after Saturday. Would you like Brett Favre’s autograph? If you don’t already have one, #1 Kurd.

        • Scott Nillissen

          6-5 CG. Nothing else matters.
          On the footbal front? 13-0!

          • ColoradoGopher

Consistency matters, Scotty. You can thank the likes of McDonough and Stepan for crossing the border, among others. And, yes… thank you N.Condon! Hey, once in awhile, Wisconsing can actually produce a D1 player.

          • Brian

Phil Kessel comes to mind really quick and he crossed the border to MN.

          • ExiledGopher

            Since nothing else matters…

            Minn: 7 NCs
            Wisc: 1 NCs

            because nothing else matters…

          • Goldenchild

since when does wisco have a football national championship

          • ExiledGopher

Depends which “sources” you count as having a national championship — they got one from somebody in 1942. If you go by just AP, then its 4 – 0 Minnesota. My bad — read to fast to identify source. I stand corrected.

  • ColoradoGopher

No doubt about the overreaction. I’m not surprised USCHO was looking for something negative regarding the Minnesota Hockey program. Too bad there aren’t any H.East teams left…. what are they to do? We’ll see if they can lose the jealousy for Gopher Hockey.

The guy in photo #16 does appear to be trying to electricute himself. Other than that, nothing to call in the police for. Actually the woman in photo 18 is right out of Woodstock and is even taking a “peace selfie”. The article should read: “Woodstock meets Frozen Four 2014 celebration – unidentified new age hippy takes peace selfie”.

p.s. – I was at the game last night. The Minnesota and UND fans are part of what makes this such a great sport and event. Even at the pregame Frozen Four Fest, no problems. Both schools were well represented. Lots of partying but a healthy, respectful and intense rivalry.

Minneapolis police with too much time on their hands, looking to start something.

    • Anti-NCAA

Really? The classless fans in Dinkytown (photos I reviewed of the aftermath) show a group of people busting down the street markers from the concrete and then smashing out the windows of a vehicle. They placed the street sign through the back seat windows.

Yeah, the cops were just asking for it….. *rolls eyes* I somehow wish it was Mahogma’s vehicle.

      • ExiledGopher

yeah…you’d think those fans were actually UND players like Frattin and Finley — except them hadn’t gotten around to throwing furniture into the street yet.

    • Brian

Hey partiers, standing on street signs and squad cars is really going to turn out well for you!

I hope people just remain calm when the Gophers win on Saturday. With the support of the many North Dakota fans who are always magnanimous in defeat, the Gophers cannot lose.

    • Matt Forget

How’d that work out for you?

  • Scott Nillissen

Relax, a few guys walked through Dinkytown wearing Badger shirts. The last time this happened was at the Gopher Homecoming parade when one of the foats sported Goldy standing and squashing Bucky’s head. Bucky was sporting a Cardianl and white CCCP hockey jersey, only the homecoming game was against Northweestern!

  • Anti-NCAA

    Stay classy, Goofers….

    • Brian
