A day after the NCAA was under-represented in the first round of the 2008 Entry Draft, NHL teams selected far more players from the college ranks. Nine were selected in the second round of the draft, including Cody Goloubef of Wisconsin, who was selected 37th overall by the Colorado Avalanche. Two Badgers' recruits, Patrick Wiercioch and Justin Schultz, were also selected; Wierchioch by Ottawa and Schultz by Anaheim. Boston University recruit Corey Trivino was the top collegiate pick Saturday; he was chosen 36th by the New York Islanders. Trivino hopes to convince fellow Terrier Colin Wilson to return next season. USCHO senior writer Jim Connelly is on location in Canada's capital, continuing to provide news, insight and analysis.

It was a short day Friday in Ottawa for players with U.S. college ties. One year after 11 collegians went in the Draft's first round, just four were picked on day one this time around. As expected, Boston University's Colin Wilson was the first collegian taken, going seventh overall to Nashville after the Predators traded up to land him. Just three other players with college ties — all incoming freshmen — graced Friday's wish list: Denver's Joe Colborne, Wisconsin's Jake Gardiner and Michigan State's Daultan Leveille.

Question of the Week

Do you like the chances of Boston College playing in their fourth consecutive championship game next season?
Yes, absolutely.
Yes, but only if Nathan Gerbe doesn't go pro.
Not really--this season's tournament showed how much more parity there is in college hockey--they will not get through the regionals.
No, definitely not: Now that they have won it all, they probably won't even make the tournament next year.
I don't know / No opinion.

NHL Prospect Camps
