College Hockey:
Atlantic Hockey weekend wrapup 10/18

Last week, we had some observations about how ties can feel like wins. Rochester Institute of Technology 4-4 tie with Massachusetts-Lowell on Saturday had to feel like like a loss. In front of a school and AHA record sellout crowd of 10, 556 at Rochester’s Blue Cross Arena, Mass-Lowell’s Scott Campbell scored an extra attacker goal with 1.3 seconds to play, taking the air out of the building.

“I left like we totally relaxed,” said RIT Coach Wayne Wilson about the tying goal. “You get what you deserve”

Robert Morris got what it deserved, a 3-2 come from behind win over Air Force at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh to cap off a weekend that also saw the Colonials win at Ohio State.

Also around the League:

  • Niagara also tied Mass-Lowell this weekend, a 2-2 affair in the Falls. Both of the Purple Eagles’ goals came on the power play.
  • Holy Cross went 2-0 in AHA play with an overtime win at Army (senior Everett Sheen getting the game winner with 11 seconds to play in overtime) and a 3-2 victory at AIC.
  • Mercyhurst dropped a pair of one-goal games at home to Western Michigan. The normally high-powered Laker offense was limited to two goals on the weekend.
  • Bentley also scored just a pair of goals on the weekend, dropping season-opening contests at Quinnipiac (3-2) and Rensselaer (3-0).
  • Finally, Connecticut had tied Maine last week, but wasn’t as strong against another Hockey East school on Saturday. Merrimack defeated the Huskies 7-1.

For the record, I was 6-3-2 in my picks for the weekend.

So, that “college hockey is a great way to make the NHL” commercial… I don’t suppose you played it for Paul Kelly for free, did you? And assuming College Hockey Inc is a paid sponsor of USCHO Live, shouldn’t you guys mention that, “Paul Kelly now joins us, and in the interest of journalistic integrity, College Hockey Inc. is a paid sponsor of USCHO Live.” ?
