Nebraska Freshman QB Arrested After Campus Disturbance

Dec. 11, 2007

(U-WIRE) LINCOLN, Neb. — Patrick J. Witt, a Nebraska redshirt freshman quarterback, was arrested Sunday morning after a disturbance at Smith Residence Hall.

Capt. Carl Oestmann of University Police said officers arrested Witt and took him to jail for disturbing the peace, trespassing, third degree assault by menacing threats, minor in possession of alcohol by consumption and possession of a fake ID, all of which are misdemeanors.

Police were dispatched at 1:50 a.m. on Sunday after Witt pushed and made threatening remarks to a resident assistant, Oestmann said. Witt ran from the officer and exited the residence hall, and officers apprehended him near 16th and W streets.

When officers searched Witt, the officer found identification that did not belong to him. Witt also showed signs of impairment from alcohol and later blew a blood alcohol concentration of .115.

A court date for the freshman accounting major has been scheduled for Jan. 8, said Joe Kelly, the chief deputy county attorney.

A decision concerning whether or not Witt will be charged for the citations has not been made yet, Kelly said, and probably won’t be made until the end of the week.

Witt paid a $50 bond to leave Lancaster County Jail at 4 a.m. on Sunday, said Tom Korecky, a correctional officer at Lancaster County Jail.

Witt was not available for comment Monday.

Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini already issued a statement on the incident.

"I have talked with Patrick about the incident over the weekend, and we are looking into the facts," Pelini said. "This matter will be dealt with internally."--
