Repeat JCA nominee Ryan Klingensmith leads the nation in goals against average for unbeaten Norwich.

An extremely busy week off the ice in Division III culminates in yet another crucial weekend of on-ice conference matchups. Columnist Scott Biggar takes a look at what the Elmira Soaring Eagles need to focus on during the stretch run and also provides an in-depth look at all the playoff possibilities in the ECAC West. Over in SUNYAC, scribe Russell Jaslow recaps the aftermath of the sanctions imposed on Buffalo State and Geneseo, recounts how the Morrisville Mustangs are suddenly now postseason eligible, and takes a step back to better examine the collegiate landscape, regarding both financial aid and overall competitiveness. Detailing all the playoff possibilities in MIAC, writer Scott Bridges has a game-by-game breakdown of this weekend’s crucial contests. In the ECAC Northeast and MASCAC, columnist Nate Owen covers the Curry Colonel’s national ascent and revisits the extremely entertaining — and remarkably high scoring — contests that took place between Worcester State and Western New England College last weekend. And finally in the ECAC East and NESCAC, scribe Tim Costello takes a closer look at squads from Babson and New England College as they attempt to chase down league-leading (and still undefeated) Norwich.

Unstoppable?

Even mighty Plattsburgh couldn’t slow down Oswego. Their winning streak now at 19, the Lakers topped their arch rivals, cementing their place atop the USCHO.com Division III poll for the eighth consecutive time. Elsewhere, the St. Scholastica Saints (ascending one spot to fourth) and Cardinals switched positions, as did Gustavus Adolphus and Hamline (Nos. 8 and 10, respectively). And in an odd twist, Wentworth replaced Colby — who last week replaced Wentworth — among the nation’s top 15 teams.

    The Humanitarian

The Hockey Humanitarian Award enters its 14th season this year, and nominations are open for the award that honors "college hockey's finest citizen." The Hockey Humanitarian Award recognizes hard work, good will, perseverance and character — players who represent the best our sport has to offer. Perhaps 2008 honoree Will Bruce said it best: the spirit of service honored by the Hockey Humanitarian Award is "not just solving a problem, it's letting people know they matter." Nominations for the 2009 award — which are welcome from coaches, college officials and all those who know a deserving candidate — are open through Dec. 19.
