Rivalry Central
It might be the most bitter rivalry in college hockey right now. The No. 3 Denver Pioneers and No. 2 North Dakota Fighting Sioux have created a rivalry marked by intensity, fights, and allegations of cheap hits over the last several seasons. Both teams fought hard, with the Pioneers prevailing 3-2 in a game marked by 20 penalties. The sweep of North Dakota might be enough to push Denver into the No. 1 slot past Miami, who needed a shootout to beat Western Michigan tonight. No. 4 Mass.-Lowell rolled over surprising Merrimack 6-3 to keep pace in Hockey East with suddenly resurgent New Hampshire, who tied Boston University 3-3. No. 17 Boston College rallied to tie Maine 3-3. No. 10 Alaska rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 in overtime and split their series with Lake Superior, while No. 16 Michigan broke their losing streak in strong style, beating Bowling Green 4-1. In the ECAC, Colgate showed they are for real, taking a 5-4 overtime decision over No. 19 Princeton, while No. 13 Quinnipiac continued their strong play, edging No. 5 Cornell 3-2.

In his first game back from a three-week layoff due to injury, Marc Cheverie recorded his fourth shutout of the season as No. 3 Denver edged No. 2 North Dakota in Denver in the night's marquee matchup. Several other WCHA battles were close, as No. 20 Minnesota-Duluth topped archrival Minnesota 4-3 in overtime and No. 7 Colorado College needed a late goal from Mike Testwuide to edge a pesky Robert Morris squad 4-3. In what would have looked to be a prime-time Hockey East game before the start of the season, struggling New Hampshire topped free-falling Boston University 4-2. No. 17 Boston College held off a furious Maine rally for a 4-3 win, taking a share of first place in Hockey East with UNH. In the marquee ECAC game of the night, No. 13 Quinnipiac held off Colgate 5-3. Two CCHA squads who had looked strong in October continue to struggle, as No. 10 Alaska fell to Lake Superior 4-3 and No. 16 Michigan fell to Bowling Green 4-2.
