College Hockey:
St. Michael’s Wins Play-In

— St. Michael’s defeated Assumption, 5-2, Saturday to win the play-in game in the ECAC Division II tournament.

St. Michael’s advances to the semifinals Wednesday. The Purple Knights play at top-seeded St. Anselm.

Brent Hill and Jeremy Coccaro scored goals 25 seconds apart late in the second period as St. Michael’s broke a 2-all tie. Justin Quenneville then scored halfway through the final period to give St. Michael’s its final margin.

Coccaro and Martin Hyun lifted the Purple Knights into a 2-1 lead after one period. Their goals offset a goal by Assumption’s Bob Reddish a minute into the game. Andrew Senesi scored on a power-play at the 12:30 mark of the second period to tie the game for the Greyhounds.
