College Hockey:
Wildcats Knock Out Minutemen

— David Busch and Joshua Prudden each notched a goal and an assist as New Hampshire defeated UMass-Amherst, 3-0, knocking the Minutemen out of the Hockey East playoffs.

The Minutemen close out the 2000-01 season with a record of 8-22-4 overall, and 7-15-2 in Hockey East. They finished in ninth place in Hockey East, one point behind Merrimack for the final playoff spot.

After a scoreless first period, UNH got on the board when Busch beat Minuteman netminder Markus Helanen at 7:15 of the second period. Helanen kept UMass within striking distance as he turned aside 19 Wildcat shots in the period.

UMass had three power-play oppurtunities in the third period, but could not beat UNH goalie Ty Conklin. UNH added two insurance goals late in the third to end the Minuteman season.

Helanen made 37 saves on the evening, while Conklin stoped all 17 UMass shots he faced.

UNH ends its regular season with a record of 20-10-6 overall, 11-8-5 in Hockey East. The Wildcats will face UMass-Lowell in the first round of the Hockey East playoffs.
