College Hockey:
Underclassmen Propel Nanooks Past Falcons

— Freshmen and sophomores scored seven goals Friday night as the University of Alaska-Fairbanks opened its season with an 8-1 victory over the Air Force Academy.

Freshman Aaron Voros and sophomore Ryan Lang each scored twice for the Nanooks, while sophomores Cory Rask, Tom Herman and Cam Keith also had goals. Seniorcaptain Aaron Grosul rounded out the scoring.

Lang, Rask and Herman play on the same line. Lang scored only three goals last season.

Voros’ first goal put UAF ahead 3-0 early in the second period before Air Force’s Kyle Fransdal put his team on the scoreboard with a power-play goal.

The Nanooks then scored four goals in a 6:22 span to put the game away.
