College Hockey:
Kingsbury Tallies Hat Trick In Season Debut

Saints Coast Past Huskies

— Last year’s NCAA runners-up made life difficult for St. Cloud State Sunday.

St. Lawrence scored the game’s first five goals and cruised to a 6-1 victory over St. Cloud State at the National Hockey Center.

The loss, SCSU’s fifth in a row and 11th in the last 12 games, drops the Huskies’ record to 4-14-1. St. Lawrence improved to 10-5-1.

The Saints scored two goals in the first period on goals by Jessica Knapp and Gina Kingsbury. Kingsbury, playing in her first game of the year for the Saints, tallied again in the second period to give St. Lawrence a 3-0 lead.

St. Lawrence led 5-0 when Andrea Keller knocked in her sixth goal of the year at the 14:44 mark of the third period to narrow the lead to 5-1.

Kingsbury earned her hat trick at the 15:17 mark for a 6-1 victory. The sophomore finished with three goals and an assist.

The Huskies were outshot 51-22 and didn’t convert on any of their three power-play chances. St. Lawrence was 0-of-2 of the power play. Ellen Brinkman stopped 45 shots in goal for the Huskies.
