Weasler Stops 25 As SCSU Blanks UAH

Huskies End Two-Game Winless Streak

— No. 5 St. Cloud (21-5-2, 14-4-2 WCHA) scored a 3-0 nonconference shutout against Alabama-Huntsville (11-13-1, 5-6-1 CHA) Friday. Senior goalie Dean Weasler notched his sixth career shutout in the game, coming up with 25 saves as the Huskies outshot the Chargers 37-25. Weasler is now 14-3-2 on the season between the pipes for SCSU.

The two teams skated to a 0-0 tie through the first period, before Jeff Finger scored the game winner at 8:15 of the second with an unassisted goal. The goal pushed Finger’s scoring streak to a team-high six games.

In the third period, Derek Eastman added to the SCSU lead with a goal at 4:10 with assists from Matt Gens and Ryan Malone. For Eastman, the goal was his fifth of the 2001-02 season. Mike Doyle iced the game at 16:56 of the third period with assists from Peter Szabo (his 22nd of the season) and Finger.

The victory snapped a two-game winless streak for the Huskies — their longest of the 2001-02 season. The two teams will play again on Saturday, with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff at the National Hockey Center.
