College Hockey:
Peterson, Lake State Top Mercyhurst

— Chris Peterson scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal 3 minutes, 40 seconds into the second period Saturday night, leading Lake Superior State over Mercyhurst 3-1.

Terry Denike made 24 saves for Lake State (3-1). Andy Franck stopped 23 shots for Mercyhurst (0-2).

Peterson gave Lake Superior State a 2-0 lead less than two minutes after Jeremy Banchusz opened the scoring.

Peter Rynshoven scored on the power play to cut the lead in half. But Bo Cheesman scored into an empty net with two seconds left in the game to seal the win.
