Cardinals Take Third-Place Game

— Plattsburgh scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat Manhattanville 4-2 in the third-place game of the Division III Women’s Championship at Kenyon Arena.

Plattsburgh (22-6-2) scored three consecutive goals in the third period to win the consolation game. Jenn Clarke’s goal 46 seconds into the period tied the game at 2. Clarke took the puck from behind the net and circled to the slot before scoring on a backhander.

Manhattanville (23-5-2) took the lead just 1:32 after the game started when Cherie Stewart put home a rebound after a shot by Melissa Hawkins. Plattsburgh answered with a goal by Gibson when she skated in from the blue line before scoring from the crease area.

The Valiants went ahead 2-1 early in the second period as Amanda Zimecki scored from the slot after a scramble for the puck.

Carolyne Roy made 22 saves in goal for Plattsburgh, while Kirnan made 18 stops for Manhattanville.
