College Hockey:Denver tops St. Cloud State on Shore’s overtime winner
ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Drew Shore scored his second power-play goal 1:19 into overtime to lead Denver over St. Cloud State 3-2 Friday night at the National Hockey Center.
All three goals from Denver were with the man advantage.
“Obviously, our power play was a huge difference tonight,” DU coach George Gwozdecky said. “The adjustment we made on the power play was very effective. [Goalie] Juho [Olkinuora] was outstanding for the third game in a row.”
Olkinuora made 26 saves in the win.
St. Cloud State (6-9-4, 4-6-3 WCHA) got goals from Cam Reid and Travis Novak, while Ryan Faragher had 25 saves.
After Novak’s power-play goal tied the game at 2-all at 17:53 of the third period, Ben Hanowski took a goaltender interference penalty at the final buzzer that gave DU the overtime power-play opportunity.
Jason Zucker tallied the Pioneers’ other goal.
The series wraps up Saturday with a 7:07 p.m. CST opening puck drop.
