Terriers shut out Eagles to win season series

Kerrin Sperry made 30 saves in her first shutout this year and six different Terriers scored to rout the Eagles 6-0 at Walter Brown Arena. Isabel Menard’s assist on the fourth goal was her 100th collegiate point (21 w/ BU, remainder with Syracuse).

Taylor Holze scored the opening goal with 11 seconds remaining in the first period and followed that with two assists to lead the Terriers in points earned.

Corinne Boyles also made 30 saves while Blake Bolden and Danielle Welch led the Eagles in shots with four each.

Expect the unexpected… that was the theme the Terriers wanted to go for last night and darn right they did! For those who don’t believe great rivals can bring the best and the worst out of each other, I suggest watching this game. Ohhh by the way, Poulin is back in the lineup.. Surprise!
Durocher made a great decision leaving Jenn as a wing to add up to the scoring power Poulin was bringing. Last night, BU finally looked like the #2 team last year. To a certain extent, I can’t say I’m amazed. Not only they needed this for the playoffs, they also were playing their biggest rival (BC) for the season series win. It was expected that BU will bring it all hungry for a win after such a bad season and what other team will make them enjoy it more than BC??
Needless to say after Taylor Wasylk decided to give Taylor Holze plenty of space to receive a pass and be wide open on the net, BU grabbed the momentum they’ve been looking for all season just going in to the first intermission.  Then after Boyles wasn’t careful and allowed board rebound to squeeze behind her for a goal it was clear there was no coming back. This season has shown that not only she has a hard time to be on her “A” game against BU, but also when she allows mistakes like that to happen her confidence goes down and there is no coming back from it. Sadly, the team always goes with her. BC not only gave up on one on one battles but also their frustration lead them to a few unnecessary penalties. The turnovers on the neutral zone that BC has been struggling with this season really created lots of chances for BU.
I expect the Terriers to bring it hard for the Beanpot next week to try earning it at home. One game at a time will take you far BU.
To Katie King and her crew, I certainly hope this loss helps them prepare for top teams in the playoffs.. at least mentally because the girls need it. The games that are left for the regular season will allow them to experiment. Ashley Motherwell has a good shot from the point. Her ability to deceive allows her to shoot accurately on net without directly looking at it or the puck. Traffic maybe? Also, speedy Walsh… they might want to use that rocket to their advantage. She might not be the top scorer but she can certainly create the space for someone to step in and finish.
