Becker announces plans to add women’s hockey for ’15-16 season

Becker announced Friday that the college will add women’s hockey, starting with the 2015-16 season.

There was no indication in a school-issued press release what conference affiliation the school would seek. The men’s hockey team plays Division III in the ECAC Northeast.

“We at Becker College are truly excited to be offering women’s ice hockey as a varsity program,” said director of athletics Frank Millerick in a statement. “Women’s ice hockey is one of the fastest growing sports internationally. It is our intention to attract women from across the globe to attend Becker and play ice hockey for the Hawks.”

A search for a head coach is currently underway.
