Denver’s Montgomery to miss series at North Dakota after father’s passing

Denver coach Jim Montgomery will miss both games of a weekend series at North Dakota after the death of his father.

James Montgomery Sr., 80, passed away Friday morning in Montreal, according to the Denver athletic department.

 

Pioneers second-year assistant coach David Carle will fill in as head coach for the NCHC series between No. 9 Denver and No. 2 North Dakota.

Carle talked about the situation in a video posted by Denver:

“On behalf of the University of Denver Athletics Department, our deepest condolences go out to Jim and the Montgomery family,” associate vice chancellor Ryan Peck said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with our head coach during this difficult time and we have the utmost confidence in David Carle’s ability to lead our student-athletes during Jim’s absence.”
