What we learned: Oct. 31

First of all, Happy Halloween.

WCHA hockey is starting to shake itself out.

We have an idea who the contenders are. We have an idea which teams are struggling, and we have an idea of which players will be key statistical leaders.

Here is what we learned this weekend:

1. Michael Bitzer is one of the best goalies in college hockey. You may have already known that, but after a 4-0 victory this weekend, the Bemidji State goalie has 13 career shutouts — passing Matt Climie for the most in program history. On top of that, the Beavers are 6-0 in the WCHA.

2. Bowling Green finally has something to build on. The Falcons picked up a split this week against in-state rival Miami and finally won a game after seven straight defeats. Could this signal a turnaround for Bowling Green once they jump back into WCHA play?

3. Michigan Tech runs the Upper Peninsula. The Huskies swept away Northern Michigan this weekend and did it in a home-and-home series. Michigan Tech is now 3-2-1 in WCHA play and has 11 points, good for third in the league.
