Weekend picks: Feb. 10

My inability to get a bead on North Dakota cost me a game against Matthew in our picks race last week, but I still have a sizeable lead. Last week, I went 3-1-2 while Matthew went 4-0-2. On the year, I am 76-52-21 while Matthew is 62-66-21.

Again, not all teams are in action, but we have some intriguing matchups.

Feb. 10-11

Colorado College vs. No. 2 Denver (home-and-home)
Candace: CC got its first win of the year at home two weeks ago against North Dakota, thanks in part to the play of goalie Alex Leclerc, but I think Denver has more offensive weapons and should get the sweep, particularly if Troy Terry is back in the lineup. Denver 4-2, 3-2
Matthew: CC has played better lately and they’re rested after having last weekend off. Home teams win. Denver 4-2, Colorado College 3-2

Miami at St. Cloud State
Candace: Can St. Cloud move above .500? The Huskies will be gunning for revenge, since Miami swept them last month in Oxford. I think I could flip a coin and do better than prognosticating this one. St. Cloud State 3-1, 3-2
Matthew: SCSU needs to make these home games count against a Miami team four games under .500 on the road. St. Cloud State 3-1, 3-2

No. 8 Western Michigan at Omaha
Candace: It says something about how good Western has been playing that if feels like they are struggling a bit but they’ve gone 7-2-1 in 2017. Perhaps it’s just the tie with Arizona State and the loss to Miami. Regardless, Western is a strong team. They’ve been playing at home mostly though. Their last two road series have been splits. That seems likely again. Western Michigan 2-1, Omaha 3-2
Matthew: UNO needs to get a move on if it’s going to lock up a NCAA tournament spot. Western isn’t great on the road, but I think the Broncos will get something here. Western Michigan 3-1, Omaha 3-1
