WCHA picks, Nov. 10-11

We’re a little late with the picks this week, so we don’t have much time for wasting. It’s the first weekend with all 10 teams playing WCHA series, so it will be fun. Here goes:
Alaska at Ferris State
Sean: This could be a big weekend for Alaska against Ferris. A sweep would help pull them into the upper third of the WCHA standings. Nanooks 3-2, 4-1
Jack: I didn’t realize it until just now but Ferris is at the very bottom of the WCHA right now with just one point in four games. Small sample size, sure, but the Bulldogs will want some points this weekend. I think they’ll get a split at home. Bulldogs 3-1, Nanooks 2-1
Northern Michigan at/vs. Michigan Tech
Sean: This should be a good one and I think it’s going to be a low-scoring series. Shootouts are going to be common, with each team picking up one additional point in the skills competition. Huskies 3-2 (shootout), Wildcats 3-2 (shootout)
Jack: I actually think this is going to go the other way. NMU has looked solid so far this year. I think they sweep their UP rivals both on the road and at home. Wildcats 4-1, 4-2
Lake Superior State at Bowling Green
Sean: The Falcons have been playing well lately and haven’t lost in five straight games. I think they extend that streak to seven this weekend. Falcons 2-1, 3-2 (OT)
Jack: I agree with you on this one. Bowling Green is going to keep up their streak and keep winning. Falcons 3-2, 3-1
Minnesota State at Bemidji State
Sean: Both of these teams have to be disappointed with splits from last weekend. This weekend they’ll have to settle for another 1-1 showing. Mavericks 3-2, Beavers 3-1
Jack: The Beavers will be without star defenseman Zach Whitecloud this series. I’m not sure missing one player will kmake a huge difference, but it may be worth at least one extra Mavs goal. I think it’s a split. Beavers 4-2, Mavericks 3-1

Alaska Anchorage at Alabama Huntsville
Sean: A pair of teams near the bottom of the WCHA standings, playing at home should be the difference for the Chargers. Chargers 4-3, 3-2
Jack: This is UAH’s first home series this season. I think they’ll make the most of it. Chargers 3-1, 2-1
