Trailing 2-1 through 20 minutes, Providence exploded in the second with four goals in a span of 3 minutes, 56 seconds to rally past Dartmouth, 5-3, and capture the 2019 Ledyard Bank Classic championship.

Scott Conway scored twice for the Friars and Brandon Duhaime finished the night with three assists.

Conway’s second goal of the game in the third period provided a comfort level even though Dartmouth’s Will Graber made things interesting scoring with 1:27 left to pull within two.

It was all too late, though, as the Friars improved to 11-4-3 on the season.

GREAT LAKES INVITATIONAL: Lake Superior, Michigan Tech advance

Lake Superior needed overtime and Michigan Tech used both overtime and a shootout to advance to Monday’s championship game of the Great Lakes Invitational.

Michigan and Michigan State, known for playing some classic games in the history of one of college hockey’s oldest tournaments, will play for third place.

Michigan Tech never trailed but saw the Wolverines rally twice to tie the game, 2-2, through two periods. After a scoreless third and overtime, it was Tommy Parrottino’s goal in the fifth round of the shootout that allowed Tech to advance.

Lake Superior fell behind, 2-0, early in its semifinal but rallied to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. Wojciech Stachowiak’s goal for Michigan State with 12:05 remaining, his second of the game, forced overtime.

But Diego Cuglietta’s second goal of the night with 1:55 remaining in the extra session was the difference maker, allowing the Lakers to advance to the title game.
