Alaska Anchorage announced Monday the addition of volunteer assistant coach PD Melgoza and equipment manager Travis Ward to the program.

Melgoza joins the Seawolves after spending the previous two seasons with the Los Angeles Jr. Kings youth organization, where he served as an assistant coach with the U18 AAA, U16 AAA and U14 AAA teams and was the assistant director of goaltending.

He also served as an assistant coach and head goaltending coach at Loyola Marymount, as a scout with the Thunder Bay North Stars junior team and worked for CCM and Mission/Bauer.

In addition to his duties with UAA, he will be working with AK Goaltending in Anchorage.

“Having a volunteer coach like PD is a rare find, and we are thrilled to have him with us,” said Alaska Anchorage coach Matt Curley in a statement. “Working primarily with our goalies, PD will be assisting in all aspects of the program, including video breakdown, player development and other day to day operations. He will be a welcomed addition to our staff.”

Ward comes to UAA after three years in the Washington Capitals organization where he handled multiple duties including ordering, repair and inventory of equipment. In addition to his duties as an equipment manager, he was a goalie coach with Breakout Lacrosse in Washington, DC.

“As a young guy looking for opportunity and experience, Travis has found both by joining our staff,” said Curley. “He comes highly recommended as someone who takes a lot of pride and professionalism in his work and will be great for our S-A’s. I am excited to have Travis with us.”
