Wisconsin’s Barnes scores late to cap rally for tie with Lake Superior State

MADISON, Wis. — Tyler Barnes scored two third-period goals to help No. 13 Wisconsin erase a three-goal deficit for a 3-3 tie with No. 12 Lake Superior State on Friday.

The Lakers scored three times in the game’s first 4:09 but the Badgers clawed back into the game behind a 44-25 advantage in shots on goal.

Barnes scored with 1:22 remaining and the Badgers skating with an extra attacker to tie the game. He cut Wisconsin’s deficit to one with under nine minutes to play.

Michael Mersch started the Badgers’ rally late in the first period.

Alex Globke scored 33 seconds into the game, and Dan Radke and Colin Campbell added goals shortly after as the Lakers (4-0-1) built a 3-0 lead.

But they had to rely on the solid goaltending of senior Kevin Kapalka (41 saves) in an effort to hold onto the advantage.

Landon Peterson stopped the final 20 shots he faced after allowing three goals on the Lakers’ first five shots on goal.

Stephen Perfetto scored in the sixth round of an exhibition shootout to give Lake Superior State a 3-2 decision there. The shootout didn’t count toward either team’s record and was played to give Wisconsin some practice in the format because the Big Ten uses the competition in league play to award an extra point after tie games.
