No. 2 Minnesota State extends WCHA lead with win over No. 3 Michigan Tech

MANKATO, Minn. — Carter Foguth broke a tie with his third goal of the season in the second period, and No. 2 Minnesota State moved closer to the MacNaughton Cup with a 4-2 victory over No. 3 Michigan Tech on Saturday.

The Mavericks (24-6-3, 20-3-3 WCHA) took a three-point lead over the Huskies (24-8-2, 19-5-2) with two games left to play in the WCHA regular season.

Foguth’s goal broke a 2-2 tie with 8:02 remaining in the second period. Bryce Gervais added a power-play goal in the third for Minnesota State.

Jamie Phillips stopped 27 shots, and David Johnstone and Chris Leibinger scored for Michigan Tech, which lost on the road for the first time this season in conference play.
