Blaise Silka scored the game winning goal 53 seconds into the overtime period to lift Fairfield past Connecticut, 5-4. <\/p>\n

With the loss, UConn falls to 5-6-2 overall, 5-3-1 in MAAC play, while Fairfield improves to 5-7-1 overall, 4-4-1 in conference action.<\/p>\n

UConn’s began the scoring at the 8:26 mark of the first period on a goal by Ron D’Angelo and then Silka scored his first of two goals with 1:35 remaining in the period to even the score.<\/p>\n

Connecticut’s Mike Anderson gave the Huskies the lead five minutes into the second stanza. <\/p>\n

Fairfield’s Rae Metz took advantage of a power play opportunity at 13:32 to tie the score, and then the Stags’ Dan Cotter gave Fairfield the lead minutes later to close out the period. <\/p>\n

Eric Nelson evened the score at three apiece on a power play at the 3:50 mark of the third period. <\/p>\n

Tim Desmarais gave the Stags the lead once again, only to have UConn match the score with little under a minute remaining in regulation on a tally by Ciro Longobardi. <\/p>\n

Silka then nailed his shot with only 53 seconds gone in the overtime period for the Stag win.<\/p>\n

Jason Carey was handed his first collegiate loss in net for UConn stopping 36 Fairfield shots, while Craig Schnappinger saved 19 shots on goal. The Stags outshot the Huskies 41-23, in the win.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
