AMHERST, Mass.<\/b> — A five-goal first period sent No. 4 Boston College comfortably on its way to delivering a milestone victory for coach Jerry York.<\/p>\n

York won his 1,000th career game Friday as eight different players scored in an 8-0 victory over Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

York improved to 1,000-595-108 in a 44-season head coaching career that also has included stops at Clarkson and Bowling Green.<\/p>\n

Miles Wood, Colin White, Ryan Fitzgerald, Teddy Doherty, Alex Tuch and Ian McCoshen each had a goal and an assist for the Eagles (16-4-3, 9-1-3 Hockey East). Austin Cangelosi and Chris Calnan also scored.<\/p>\n

Thatcher Demko made 20 saves for the shutout.<\/p>\n

Nic Renyard stopped 30 of the 36 shots he faced for UMass (7-13-4, 2-8-4), while Alex Wakaluk allowed two goals on two shots.<\/p>\n
