The last thing goal-starved St. Lawrence needed to see was the nation’s hottest goalie.<\/p>\n
UMass-Lowell senior goaltender Cam McCormick won his seventh straight game and posted his fifth shutout of the season as he made 27 saves to backstop the River Hawks to a 4-0 win over the Saints at Appleton Arena Friday night. It was the fourth straight loss for the Saints, who have scored just four goals during that streak.<\/p>\n
McCormick, who went into the game with a 0.60 goals against average and a .970 save percentage, improved to 8-0 on the season and recorded his third shutout in his last four starts as the sixth-ranked River Hawks improved to 11-2 overall.<\/p>\n
“You can tell just by looking at him that he is playing with a lot of confidence,” said Saint coach Joe Marsh. “We tested him a couple of times and he made it look easy.”<\/p>\n
The River Hawks opened the scoring at 9:05 of the first period when sophomore center Anders Strome took the puck from freshman winger Niklas Storm, walked out of the corner and snapped a wrist shot past Saint goalie Kevin Ackley. It went to 2-0 just 2:01 later when senior center Dan Fontas controlled the puck after his own faceoff win and then walked in on Ackley before tucking the puck behind him.<\/p>\n
A Saint defensive mistake set up the River Hawks’ third goal as a clearing pass by a Saint defender went right to senior wing Yorick Treille in the short slot, and Treille ripped a slapshot which went just under the crossbar at 17:37 of the second period.<\/p>\n
The River Hawks completed the scoring at 10:52 of the third period as junior defenseman Darryl Green fired a shot which Ackley kicked out, but the rebound bounced back into the net off the skate of a Saint defender.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
