Down 2-1 early in the second period, Lake Superior reeled off three unanswered goals to claim a 4-2 victory over visiting Bowling Green Friday night.<\/p>\n
LSSU took the early lead when Trent Campbell scored his third goal of the season at 6:27 of the first period. Bryan Dobek evened things up for Bowling Green at 14:22 of the first — his first career goal, with assists from Mike Falk and Mark Wires.<\/p>\n
Dobek scored a second team at 1:17 of the second period, staking the Falcons to a 2-1 lead.<\/p>\n
But the Lakers’ Tim Krueckl answered at 14:08 of the second period to tie the game, and Nathan Ward gave the Lakers the lead for good at 18:05.<\/p>\n
The Lakers’ Bo Cheesman scored and empty-net goal with 30 seconds remaining for the 4-2 verdict.<\/p>\n
“Lake Superior did a good job defensively and we weren’t quick enough offensively to get to the loose pucks,” said BGSU coach Scott Paluch. “Consequently, we didn’t get many shots off.”<\/p>\n
LSSU held an 18-4 shot advantage in the first period, though the Falcons escaped with a 1-1 tie after the first 20 minutes. The Lakers finished with a 35-18 shot advantage for the game, the lowest shot total by BGSU this season.<\/p>\n
BGSU’s Jordan Sigalet made 31 saves and allowed three goals, including 17 saves in the first period. LSSU’s Matt Violin had 16 saves for the win.<\/p>\n
Both teams were held scoreless on the power play with BGSU finishing 0-for-3 and LSSU 0-for-4. The four penalty kills moves the Falcons’ streak to 33-straight opponent power plays without allowing a goal.<\/p>\n
Wires’ assist on Dobek’s first goal of the night moved his point streak to a career-high six games. The loss also snapped a four-game unbeaten streak by the Falcons, which was its longest since March of 2001.<\/p>\n
The Falcons fall to 3-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the CCHA, while Lake Superior gets its second consecutive league win and improves to 4-3-2, 2-3-0.<\/p>\n
