Robert Morris Women Accepted Into CHA

Robert Morris’ women’s program, which will begin Division I play in 2005-06, has accepted an invitation to join College Hockey America.

CHA athletic directors voted unanimously to accept RMU’s application at the league meeting in Naples, Fla., making the Colonials the fifth member of the conference. Robert Morris will join current members Mercyhurst, Niagara, Quinnipiac and Wayne State.

“[The CHA] will provide good competition for us as well as the opportunity to develop rivalries. It’s exciting to look forward to beginning play,” said RMU athletic director Susan Hofacre.

Robert Morris is currently in the process of hiring a head coach for the women’s program and joins the men’s program in College Hockey America. The Colonials will play their home games at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Center, located on Neville Island, Pa.

“College Hockey America is very proud and pleased to accept Robert Morris University as a member of the women’s division,” CHA commissioner Bob Peters said. “Robert Morris University has long been recognized for academic excellence and also for major accomplishments in athletics as an NCAA Division I member. I am confident that Robert Morris University will have a profound effect upon women’s collegiate hockey in the immediate future.”
