Fukushima, River Falls Escape with OT Win, 3-2

Shane Fukushima pushed home a goal nearly four minutes into overtime as Wisconsin-River Falls beat Marian 3-2 Saturday at the Blueline Ice Center.

River Falls, ranked ninth in the USCHO.com preseason poll, came away from the season-opening series with a tie and and overtime victory against unranked Marian. And for the second straight night, the Falcons needed a late goal to reach overtime. This time, Jamie Steinert scored at the 17:21 mark of the third period for a 2-2 tie.

The teams exchanged power-play goals early. Jeff Bernard scored for River Falls midway through the first period, then Dan Odegard equalized for Marian just under a minute into the second period.

Tommy Kotsopoulos gave Marian a 3-2 lead on a shorthanded breakway just over eight minutes into the third period.

Marian goalkeeper Terry Dunbar had 42 saves, including 19 in the third period. For the weekend series, Dunbar faced 85 shots and turned away 81.
