Gophers Romp Past Shorthanded Duluth, 8-0

Ambria Thomas finished with a hat trick and two assists as third-ranked Minnesota skated to an 8-0 win Saturday night over fourth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth at Mariucci Arena.

The Gophers jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first period on two goals from Thomas and Ronda Curtin’s seventh tally of the season.

La Toya Clarke scored the lone goal of the second period, a power-play goal at 14:45. Laura Slominski, who finished with a goal and three assists, set up Clarke’s fourth goal of the season.

Minnesota kept the Bulldogs on a short leash throughout the final two periods, allowing just 12 shots on goal. The Gophers peppered UMD goaltender Riana Burke with 45 shots.

Thomas scored her 10th goal of the season 19 seconds into the third period, and Clarke followed with her second goal of the night at 6:26. Jerilyn Glenn netted her third goal of the season at 9:52, and Slominski capped the scoring at 13:27.

Erica Killewald finished with 21 saves, helping Minnesota complete the two-game sweep by earning her second consecutive shutout. The senior now has 20 shutouts in her career.
