Nebraska-Omaha Sweeps UMass-Amherst

The University of Nebraska-Omaha scored three unanswered second period goals en route to a 3-1 win over the University of Massachusetts in non-conference college hockey action tonight at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.

The Minutemen struck first when sophomore Tim Turner scored a power play goal with 1:13 remaining in the opening period.

UNO responded with three unanswered goal in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

Billy Pugliese opened the scoring for the Mavericks 3:32 into the period to tie the game 1-1.
The Mavericks took the lead when Jason White netted a power play goal at the 9:41 mark.

UNO increased its lead to 3-1 less than a minute later when Daniel Samuelsson netted his first goal of the season on a shot from the point.

Neither team scored in the third period. UMass goaltender Markus Helanen made 33 saves in the game, while Dan Ellis recorded 25 saves for the Mavericks.

The loss drops the Minutemen to 3-5-1 on the season, while the victory lifts UNO to 6-4-0.

The Minutemen return to action Thursday, Nov. 16, when they host UConn and UNO will travel to Miami next Friday.
