Iona Erases Early Deficit To Overcome Ice Griffs

The Iona Gaels defeated the Canisius Ice Griffs, 7-2, after scoring seven unanswered goals after being down 2-0 to Canisius (4-6-2; 3-5-2 MAAC).

Corey Lucas opened the scoring for the Ice Griffs at the 1:15 mark of the first period and then Canisius opened up a 2-0 lead with 4:24 remaining in the opening period on Lucas’ second goal, a wrist shot that beat Iona goalie Ben Brady on the top left side.

Iona closed the gap to 2-1 at the 18:22 mark on a goal by John Gilbert.

Iona (7-6-2; 6-3-2 MAAC) knotted the game at 2-2 at the 2:06 mark of the second period on Gilbert’s second goal of the game.

The score stood at 2-2 until Iona scored three goals in the final four minutes of the period from Rob Kellogg, Mark Hallam and Kelly Bararuk to send the Gales into the intermission with a three-goal lead.

The Gaels added two goals just 30 seconds apart from Bararuk and Ryan Manitowich in the third period to close the scoring and clinch the victory.
