The RIT Tigers outshot the Hobart Statesmen 51-14, and rolled on to a 10-0 victory in an ECAC West game on Friday.

Hobart kept up a strong forecheck and backcheck right from the beginning of the game and played a scrappy style for most of the contest. RIT got two power plays during the first half of the opening period, and these gave the Tigers a territorial advantage. But 5-on-5, the two teams were relatively even.

However, Hobart could only keep the potent Tiger offense at bay for so long. Surprisingly enough, it was the RIT defense that tallied the first four goals. Senior Captain Jerry Galway notched the first tally off a rebound in front of the Hobart net at 17:26.

RIT scored its second goal at the 18:53 mark. Statesmen netminder Sam Weiner dove to the side of his net to poke check the puck away. But Tiger Mike Bournazakis was able to get the puck first, and slid it under Weiner to McAllister King in the low slot. King tapped it in to the empty net for the score.

Tiger freshman Mike Walling scored the first goal of his collegiate career at 19:31 to close out the RIT scoring for the first period at 3-0. Walling pinched in from the point and roofed the puck into the net.

The RIT defense continued on its scoring onslaught early in the second period. Ryan Fairbarn scored on a blast from the point at the 1:01 mark.

It took the third power play of the game before the RIT offense finally scored a goal midway through the second period. Peter Bournazakis finished off a nice passing play from the left circle at 10:33 for RIT’s fifth tally.

Another tic-tac-toe power-play goal was scored by Derek Hahn at 14:29 as RIT continued to roll along.

RIT notched three goals in a 1:48 span early in the third period. Ryan Fairbarn scored his second of the night at 7:04. Sam Hill chipped one in at 7:55. And Derek Hahn added his second goal of the evening at 8:52. Jerry Galway assisted on the Hahn goal, part of his one goal, five assist night, and marked his 100th career point.

Jared Conlon scored the Tigers’ final goal at the 12:12 mark to close out the scoring at 10-0.

Despite some significant offensive pressure by Hobart late in the third period, Tiger netminder Tyler Euverman held on to the shutout, stopping all 14 shots that he faced.
