Fasching lifts Minnesota past Connecticut at Mariucci Classic

MINNEAPOLIS — Hudson Fasching broke a tie in the third period, and Minnesota advanced to the Mariucci Classic title game with a 3-2 victory over Connecticut on Friday.

Fasching scored 31 seconds after Max Letunov tied the game for the Huskies.

Michael Brodzinski and Taylor Cammarata scored second-period goals for the Gophers (8-8), who got 15 saves from Eric Schierhorn.

Rob Nichols stopped 35 shots, and Evan Richardson also scored for UConn (5-11-1).

Minnesota will play No. 7 Harvard in Saturday’s championship game, while UConn will play Ferris State for third place.
