Mavericks’ Stevenson Signs With Sharks

MSU-Mankato sophomore All-American forward Grant Stevenson signed a free agent contract with the San Jose Sharks, passing up his final two years of college eligibility.

Stevenson helped lead the Mavericks to their first ever NCAA tournament berth in 2003, scoring 27 goals and setting up 36 others for 63 points in 38 games. He ranked fifth in scoring nationally and tied for sixth in both goals and assists.

The 22-year-old was named as a Second Team All-American as well as First Team All-WCHA. MSU-Mankato posted its best record since joining Division I, 20-11-10, and finished in a tie for second in the WCHA standings (15-6-7).

The Mavericks fell to Cornell, 5-2, in the first round of the NCAA tournament after finishing fourth in the WCHA tournament.
