Quinnipiac Joins Women’s CHA

CHA Commissioner R.H. ‘Bob’ Peters announced that Quinnipiac’s women’s team has been accepted into College Hockey America, beginning with the 2004-2005 season, .

The Bobcats will join Findlay, Mercyhurst, Niagara and Wayne State in the CHA, which formed a women’s ice hockey league beginning with the recent 2002-2003 campaign.

“Joining the CHA is a great step for our program,” said Jack McDonald, Director of Athletics and Recreation at Quinnipiac. “The players and staff have been anxious for this to happen and we are thrilled to be affiliated with such a great group of institutions. As we head into our third year as a program, we will be able to continue to build with a greater direction as a member of a well established and respected league.”

Entering its third season at the Division I level, the Bobcats were a member of the ECAC East during their inaugural campaign. However, that league disbanded when several teams formed a Hockey East women’s league. As a result, Quinnipiac was a Division I independent this past season. The Bobcats will be an independent again this year before joining the CHA next season.

The Bobcats are coming off a 5-25-2 campaign, a two-win improvement from their first campaign.
